Tartan

Traditionally, each Scottish clan had its own unique tartan (or plaid) pattern, which was used for clothing and textiles, and served as a symbol of the clan's identity. The tartan was often passed down from generation to generation, and was used as a way to distinguish members of one clan from another or the tartan associated with the region where their ancestors lived.
